M.Ed. Portfolio

Daniel Brown Face PictureSince he was a child, Daniel has been working with computers and other types of technologies. While in high school, he completed an internship at Anderson County Behavioral Health Services (AOBHS) where he entered student surveys for internal projects and provided web design services. During his second year of college, Daniel was fortunate enough to work again with AOBHS where he taught Project Northland, a drug prevention curriculum, to middle school students at Starr-Iva Middle School.

After graduating high school, he attended Trident Technical College where he obtained an Associate of Arts and an Associates of Computer Technology. After completing Trident Tech, Daniel attended the College of Charleston and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. While earning his degrees, Daniel started his own IT companies where he provided web hosting, website design and development, and search engine optimization services.

After graduating college, Daniel started working on a Master of Education in Educational Technology, from the University of South Carolina Aiken. (Included on this site is a narrated summary of his portfolio.) He is expected to graduate in August 2014. Currently, in addition to working on his Masters degree, Daniel works full-time at Office of Public Health Practice. The Office of Public Health Practice is within the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina and it houses the largest public health training center in South Carolina. Daniel has been at the Office of Public Health Practice since January 2012 and serves as a Senior Applications Analyst where he develops web applications for faculty, staff, and community partners of the Arnold School of Public Health.

While at the Office of Public Health Practice, Daniel continues to run Systec Media; however, he has taken more of a management role in the company due to time restraints. While working, Daniel obtained his Project Management Professional credential from the Project Management Institute and is a Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner, and Certified Scrum Professional through the Scrum Alliance. These certificates are all waterfall and agile based project management methodologies. After earning his Masters, Daniel hopes to continue working towards a PhD so one day he can teach technology classes at a university and take an executive leadership role in IT at a major corporation.
