Standard 1 – Content Knowledge

Candidates demonstrate the knowledge necessary to create, use, assess, and manage theoretical and practical applications of educational technologies and processes.

Artifact (Early)-SocialComm Project for EDET 722

Standard 1 - Social Comm Wiki

  • Context
This was a project for EDET 722, Instructional Design & Assessment. The goal of the project was to learn how to use ISD to complete a project with group members having more defined roles. For this project we selected the topic of Communication in the workplace.
  • Conditions
We used wikispaces to create the learning module and screencast to create narrated videos for the project.
  • Scope
The wiki is available for others to view via wikispaces.
  • Role
This was a group project where I served as the graphic designer.
  • Performance Indicator
    • Creating–Candidates demonstrate the ability to create instructional materials and learning environments using a variety of systems approaches. The wiki is organized using the ADDIE ISD model and the finished module is on the implementation page of the wiki.
    • Using–Candidates demonstrate the ability to select and use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy. The project used a wide variety of resources including Wikispaces, Screencast, Adobe Captivate and other mapping software.
    • Assessing/Evaluating-Candidates demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate the effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials. With this project the group created and administrated a formal evaluation. With this feedback we learned that the narration should be improved before the next implementation.
    • Ethics-Candidates demonstrate the contemporary professional ethics of the field as defined and developed by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology. Resources and references were properly annotated.
  • ADDIE
This assignment went through all phases of the ADDIE process. The wiki demonstrates an in-depth analysis of all the ISD process stages used when creating the module.

Artifact (Mastery)-Learning Module for EDET 709

Standard 1-Big Redesign

  • Context
This learning module was created for EDET 709, Applications of Learning Principles, as a redesign of a previous learning module that someone else created.  This module was originally designed as a 5 slide Power Point and is now a much more interactive program.
  • Conditions
The project used Adobe Captivate which was my first experience using the program to create a video from the ground up by myself.
  • Scope
The redesigned learning module will be used to provide training for new employees that are beginning to use the ticketing system at Goose Creek Candle.
  • Role
I am the sole creator of this project.
  • Performance Indicator
    • Creating–Candidates demonstrate the ability to create instructional materials and learning environments using a variety of systems approaches. The redesign required the use of learning theories and best practices to make the module better. This included basic things like increasing user interaction and placement of text and images.
    • Using–Candidates demonstrate the ability to select and use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy. The redesigned module is much more interactive and in depth.  By changing from PowerPoint to Adobe Captivate the user experience greatly increased.
    • Ethics–Candidates demonstrate the contemporary professional ethics of the field as defined and developed by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology. References and external media were cited and attributed throughout the presentation.
    • Managing-Candidates demonstrate the ability to effectively manage people, processes, physical infrastructures, and financial resources to achieve predetermined goals. With this project I had to consult with the existing customer service staff to better learn about how they used the system and what the existing weaknesses they were. Certain processes had to be finalized with the ticketing system to ensure the ticketing system was used properly. A good example of this is that users would have to create a pre-defined response if the same issue came up more than three times a week.
  • ADDIE
The redesigned learning module allowed me to go through the entire ADDIE process. During the analysis phase I gathered requirements of the project and then I continued to design the project with the creation of a storyboard and then I designed the actual process. After implementing the training there was informal feedback through the new employee learners that completed the module.
